Old Film:: An Aunt as a Small Girl

Friday, October 3rd, 2014

I like this cute picture of (presumably) one of my aunties, although I can’t identify the aunt. The girls were older than my father and his brothers so, if I’m right and she’s an aunt, I’d place this photograph as earlier than 1930. This photograph of my aunt was scanned from a 6cm x 9cm film negative made by my paternal grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986).

My Father joking around in Drag (1950s)

My father grew into a man who found it hard to be wrong. He burned bridges. But I can see off old home movies and photographs with his family and friends that some time way back he really enjoyed self-deprecating humour. These photographs of my father and aunt were scanned from 6cm x 9cm film negatives made by my paternal grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986). It looks like on this occasion my father and aunt may have swapped their clothing for a bit of a laugh.

Old Film:: Another Portrait of my Father

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

My father was dirt poor and hard working. He left school at the end of grade 6 and worked to help support his large family. He spent over forty years of his life as a labourer (and then foreman) at Comalco, Bell Bay. This photograph of my father was scanned from a 6cm x 9cm film negative made by my paternal grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986). I’m not sure where this photograph was made, but it was probably in the very early 1950s. If there was one thing to be said for my old dad… he was proud to be a worker.
