Jean-Jacques André & 63 Years of Artistic Nudes
Monday, July 31st, 2017
Jean Jacques André has made a life shooting artistic nudes. Inspired by his father (a symbolist painter) and the natural environment, his career began in 1954 and continues to the present day.
Some of André’s simpler nudes are to my eye absolutely gorgeous; others (that are not represented here) are intense, surreal and to another taste entirely. However, because of that career transition over so many years he’s exactly an inspiration worthy of the photographer’s investigation. Rather than shoot a predictable static style over that period of time there is a dramatic evolution of vision and technique.
Yes, I could write all the art-speak portfolio biographic diatribe about the decades through André’s career. But I won’t. That investigation is left up to you. I’m a big fan of his earlier work and not so much the present.
