Old Film:: My Dad & National Service (early 1950s)

My father served his 176 days in National Service during the very early 1950s. He didn’t like the discipline. And until I looked at his hair in these photographs I hadn’t realised the military allowed swag hair back in the day. These photographs were scanned from 6cm x 9cm film negatives made by my grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986). My parents married around this time. Mum was a trained nurse and my father was a labourer. He ended up working at Comalco’s Bell Bay plant for over forty years and died in 2000 from chronic lung disease.

Old Film:: An Aunt as a Small Girl

I like this cute picture of (presumably) one of my aunties, although I can’t identify the aunt. The girls were older than my father and his brothers so, if I’m right and she’s an aunt, I’d place this photograph as earlier than 1930. This photograph of my aunt was scanned from a 6cm x 9cm film negative made by my paternal grandmother Elvie Ruth Bonner (1901-1986).

Photographic Industry Marketing (1960)

In a recent book review of the German Photographic Manual 1960 there wasn’t enough space to cover the beautiful industry marketing advertisements. Photokina was ten years old in 1960 and the German photographic industry had redeemed itself from near annihilation after World War 2. So I thought, just for the film camera porn of it, I’d share some scans from the back of this beautifully made book.
